Being empathetic is very uncomfortable when you don’t know how to live with it. From my experience it caused me to make horrible decisions and live a crappy-ass life based upon the absorbed emotions of others. How to slay life as an empath is easier said than done. However, every empath is capable of doing it.
What is an empath?
The Oxford Dictionary definition is (chiefly in science fiction) a person with the paranormal ability to apprehend the mental or emotional state of another individual. I do not believe the part about science fiction or paranormal is necessary to describe an empath considering that there are so many people who are empaths and even more who don’t know that they are.
Signs of empaths
- enjoy solitude
- have a great need to be alone after being in large crowds
- avoid crowded places
- welcome the company of animals
- love being in nature or by the water
- are drawn or attached to historical places or particular periods
- have an “old soul” (usually known as wise beyond their years)
How do you know if you are an empath?
- Have you considered yourself a highly (emotionally) sensitive person?
- Do you automatically start feeling bad because someone else feels bad?
- When someone is happy, do you feel excited for them?
- Whenever you’ve been around someone and after leaving them, do you feel like all your life has been sucked out of you?
- Have you ever had “gut feelings ” about certain decisions, places, or things?
- Can you sense or feel energy (predominantly negative energy) in a seemly empty room or area?
- Are you able to tell when someone you know is “feeling off” or “acting out of character”?
- Do you just feel s!*# from out of nowhere?
If you can answer yes to most if not all, you are probably an empath. And I know sometimes you wish you weren’t! lol But trust me, it’s not that bad once you learn how to live with being an empath.
Stumbling through life as an empath is a thing of the past.
I’ve experienced strange phenomena ever since I was little. Unfortunately for me, information about anything within the spiritual realm was still a woo-woo topic when I was growing up. I was afraid of the things I experienced and even more afraid to talk about them because I didn’t want to be called crazy or a weirdo.
Being an Empath isn’t just about feeling energy from people and animals. Empaths who are sensitive enough, also feel the energy from places and things are called clairsentients. Clairsentients can pick up energy just by standing in an empty room or touching tangible items.
Living in fear of your abilities is something you can gain control of. By the time I became an adult, I wished I never had the abilities that I had (which kept getting stronger)! But as early as 2010, spirituality became openly popular, giving people who have faith in God a way to practice without religious restriction. Information about our spiritual gifts is at our fingertips and we’re able to learn how to slay life as an empath at our own pace.
How to Slay Life as an Empath
There are six major tips that I’ve listed as the most common ways to help you slay life as an empath. After that are a few tips about how to emphasize these empathic gifts.
I’ve also included the empath protection plan (EPP) at the end. The EPP is designed to protect you and your spiritual ability. Read over each of these tips and choose the best empath protection plan for you to take life and slay the empath way!
Starting here, are the six tips.
Be aware of your energy.
It is wise to pay attention to your energy. Notice how you feel when you wake up in the morning. If you are feeling fine, great, neutral, or so-so, this gives you a blueprint of what energies you encounter throughout the day that may not belong to you.
We are our most vulnerable when we are asleep. At night time, the veil between worlds is thin. If there is any kind of negative energy present from earlier in the day, it can catalyze for bad spirits to disrupt your recovery period aka sleeping through the night.
Be careful who you invite into your home.
Many empaths feel most comfortable when they stay at home. It’s safe and secure in more ways than physically. It is easier to feel when there is a shift in energy in a space that is familiar and has a certain vibration.
However, many empaths are unaware of their vulnerability when guests bring “uninvited guests”. These “uninvited guests” can detach themselves from their transporters and stay long after your guests are gone.
Pay attention to the energy shift in the home when your guests leave. It doesn’t matter if it’s the nice neighbor from across the street or the babysitter, this applies to all service people as well.
Be careful who you hang around.
Some people carry a lot of negative energy. People could have an aura that is filthy with trauma and bad experiences collected over their lifetime. Even very good people you know or yourself can have energetic residue.
This energy clog is a welcome mat for negative entities to move in and set up shop. To prevent yourself from absorbing bad energy and spirits, be choosy about who you spend your time with.
Be careful what you touch.
Just like people, tangible items hold onto energy. When entering a person’s home for the first time, it’s good manners not to go around touching their personal belongings. There’s usually no need to worry about what you touch if you’re at the home of people you know.
However, most empaths love antiques and vintage collectibles. Also, be mindful when shopping around at yard or garage sales, thrift stores, and flea markets. These items are preowned and can hold onto the previous owner’s energy, so take care when handling them.
If you are interested in an item, spray this on the item before you bring it home. This spray is also known as “empath spray” and it works extremely well.
Be careful where you go.

Strangers, friends, and family homes
Empaths don’t normally go inside the homes of unknown people, especially without being with a mutual friend. But even if you do know them, pay attention to the type of people they are and what kind of environment you’re walking into.
Cemeteries
This should go without saying but for empaths, we must be mindful of the places we go and the environment we choose to be in. I do not go to cemeteries because spirits are attracted to light beings, especially light beings who shine brighter (empaths). Unless you want to become a ghost whisperer or a ghost hunter, I would limit visits to cemeteries.
Please note that for some individuals, helping spirits cross over is an actual calling. So, for those people who naturally feel drawn to cemeteries and haunted places, don’t ignore your true life’s purpose!
Hospitals
Hospitals are an energetic breeding ground with so many different people coming and going. This includes but is not limited to Emergency rooms, psychiatric facilities, children’s hospitals, and These medical centers are familiar with pain, suffering, and death which lowers energetic vibration. Visit hospitals with discretion.
Abandoned Places
Countless places in the U.S. alone are abandoned, like the previous owner of an old house may have let the place crumble, or an amusement park flooded and never recovered. These places that are left and forgotten are only visited by the homeless and graffiti artists.
However, sometimes there’s an otherworldly reason why a place is abandoned. Traumatic and ghastly events may have occurred in a place, sending the environment’s energy straight to hell. When this happens, no living soul (empath or not) feels comfortable being there. Avoid abandoned places that give you creepy vibes, there’s usually a good reason you should stay away!
Practice energy protection.
Everyone should practice protecting their energy. It’s not just for highly sensitive people. Unfortunately, empaths tend to absorb outside energy easier than others. This is because of the sensitive nature of the energy field of the empath.
Practice. Every. Day. Feeling other people’s emotions and energetic vibrations from places and things can be extremely draining and lower your vibration if you allow it.
Emphasize Your Empathic Ability
You are now familiar with what can affect your energy as an empath, but you may not know how to use it to your advantage. Here are a few tips on how to emphasize your empathic ability.
Meditation
I’ll be honest with you, I’m not big on meditation. I’ve tried it and the way it’s being taught just isn’t working for me. I happen to meditate in a ‘different’ way. Therefore, I cannot push something that I don’t do regularly, but I can tell you to try what other empaths have done.
So to be fair, I will not leave meditation out as a way to emphasize your ability just because I don’t do it. I’ve been told by many that it works and I have no reason to doubt them. After all, my blog is about trying out what works for you.
Communicate With Your Spirit Team
This is important. Empathic powers link to feeling energy vibrations on a level that most of us can’t visually see. Our spirit teams are working for us 24/7 on a higher frequency to guide us through life and help protect us from threats from the other side of the veil. However, they can’t help us if we don’t acknowledge them and ask for their assistance.
Therefore, I talk to my spirit team all the time. If you catch me muttering to myself like a crazy lady, I’m just having a spiritual meeting. This is what many people need to meditate for, to connect with the higher power and not look like the town cuckoo!
What’s Your Tale Tell Sign?
If you are a seasoned empath, you may notice, small indications that occur whenever you get an empathic feeling. This may be a tricky question for some because it can be anything! Most empaths probably don’t pay attention enough to the so-called warning sign whenever low vibe energy is present.
So for this, I suggest using some past experiences to help you identify what your tale-tell sign is. Using past experiences will do two things. Number one, it will keep you from walking into harm’s way and two, it will help you to focus on a relatable feeling, emotion, or physical change that seems to happen each time you’ve encountered low vibe situations.
Empath Protection Plan (EPP)
As an empath, I’ve created the EPP to work for individuals according to how they pick up on energy.
Groups of specific spiritual tools paired together to cater to certain empathic needs are EPP kits.
