10 Harry Potter Life Quotes

You’re a wizard Harry.

Any fantasy magic lover has either read or watched Harry Potter. Even though I have not had the opportunity to read the book series, I’ve overindulged in the movie collection as if my life depended on it! That’s how I was able to come up with 10 Harry Potter life quotes.

With that said, there are ten Harry Potter life quotes that I’ve applied to an average daily lifestyle. These quotes, even though they’ve come from fictional characters, have given inspiration to daily choices that we all seem to face in one way or another.

To give this post a little magic of my own, the quotes are listed not only by who said them but also pictured by examples of the characters they may apply to. After all, J.K. Rowling has done a fantastic job of connecting the memorable characters of the Wizarding World in a way that our spirits are connected in real life.

Alas, here they are, 10 Harry Potter life quotes. Oh, by the way, these quotes are in no special order. So enjoy them as is and not by numerical placing. Let the magic begin!

Harry Potter Life Quote #1.

“Why don’t you confer with Mr. Finnigan? As I recall, he has a particular proclivity for pyrotechnics.” Professor Minerva McGonagall

According to the movies, Seamus Finnigan has always had erm, “issues” casting spells without an explosion. The sear-faced wizard has managed to turn this complication into a major strength that has helped protect Hogwarts.

Life lesson: Play to your strengths. Not everyone is meant to be the same. Simply put, everyone has something to bring to the table, even if it goes kaboom!

Harry Potter Life Quote #2.

“Well, it may have escaped your notice but life isn’t fair.” Professor Severus Snape

Ahh, our hauntingly beloved Professor Snape has told Potter the truth between the lines while in the middle of giving him a mind control lesson. Harry soon found out exactly what Snape meant whenever he spoke of his father, James Potter.

Despite being bullied by James, Severus never lost sight of what was important to him, keeping Harry safe for the sake of Dumbledore and his love for Harry’s mother, Lily.

Life lesson: There are many circumstances in life that aren’t fair to us. How we choose to live no matter what those circumstances are, is the only thing that counts.

Harry Potter Life Quote #3.

“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to your enemies. But a great deal more to stand up to your friends.” Albus Dumbledore

This meaningful life quote from Harry Potter was directed to Neville Longbottom. In his first broom flying class, Neville failed to control his broomstick. After considering his remembrall is useless, and fainting in herbology, it is clear Neville has gotten the short end of the stick during his time at Hogwarts.

The last thing he needed was the curious duo, Harry and Ron sneaking off, getting the Gryffindor house into more trouble. Therefore, Neville stood against Harry and Ron in (unsuccessful) attempts to keep points from being deducted on their behalf.

Later on, we witnessed Neville’s bravery flourish against the dark lord and his followers.

Life lesson: It’s hard to face strangers or enemies when they are wrong. But that’s easier than going against people you care about. This skill can manifest into greater acts of bravery in your life, just like Neville Longbottom!

Harry Potter Life Quote #4.

“Working hard is important. But there’s something that matters even more, believing in yourself.” Harry Potter

Even though Harry said this while he was teaching his fellow schoolmates the Patronus charm, this quote applies to none other than his best pal, Ron Weasley.

As most of us know, Ron was quite jittery about quidditch tryouts. Having procured Felix Felicis, Harry simulated pouring the liquid luck into Ron’s drink to help calm his nerves. Ron was overcome with confidence and performed well.

Harry accused Hermione of cheating, while he revealed that the liquid luck was never used. Let’s keep moving forward with our list of 10 life quotes from Harry Potter.

Life lesson: Ron clearly had what people call the “placebo effect”. He only believed he would make the team because he had drank Felix Felicis potion. All we really need in life is to truly believe we can conquer our goals and well will!

Harry Potter Life Quote #5.

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.” Albus Dumbledore

Quote #6.

“. . . More to the point, I can’t think of a spell that our Hermione can’t do. Don’t you think on it Hermione, don’t you think on it for one minute.” Rubius Hagrid

There are two Harry Potter life quotes that I think work perfectly for one of the best witches of all, Hermione Granger. Dumbledore did not particularly say this to Ms. Granger but instead, it was directed to Harry.

However, taking into huge consideration the nature of which Hermione was born 100 percent muggle (a non-magic person), she has grown to become one the most gifted witches to attend Hogwarts.

This carries into quote number six.  After having a run-in with Draco Malfoy, the three friends took themselves to Hagrid’s hut for assistance.

Ron’s broken wand backfired a spell in an attempt to defend Hermione, causing him to puke slugs. She was called a mudblood by Draco which is a derogatory term meaning dirty blood or muggle-born.

Hagrid adamantly lets it be known that it doesn’t matter if she is a muggle, she’s an extremely talented witch and shouldn’t give it a second thought.

Life lesson: This one is a powerful statement simply describing no matter where you come from, you can be anything. Quote six supports number five by reminding you that if you’re good at what you do, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Let the haters hate and continue to do you!

Harry Potter Life Quote #7.

“Words are in my not so humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury and remedying it.” Albus Dumbledore

Harry is worn from the Horcrux search and facing Voldemort. Harry has a vision of the fallen Professor Dumbledore. And Dumbledore has many wise words for Harry even after his death.

Life lesson: This quote is one that easily fits into daily life. Words can hurt people’s feelings as much as they can bring them joy. In summary, things we say have a way of manifesting our realities.

Harry Potter Life Quote #8.

Fred: “I’ve always felt our futures lay outside the world of academic achievement.”

George: “Fred, I’ve been thinking exactly the same thing.”   Fred and George Weasley

Trickster twins Fred and George are the defiant duo disinterested in scholastics (say that five times fast! LOL). This quote comes about when the Weasley twins’ have had enough of the new headmistress Dolores Umbridge’s ridiculously rigorous rules, stressful  O.W.L. exams, and severe forms of punishment.

Their love for practical pranks and magical mischief far outweighed anything having to do with academics. Therefore, they decided to not only free themselves but to liberate all the suffering students of Hogwarts as well.

Life lesson: Education is important and a requirement for many forms of career paths in this world. However, school isn’t for everyone and many will find themselves in trouble trying to do what everyone tells them to do.  So, no matter what people are enforcing, choose your own path to success. Mischief managed!

Harry Potter Life Quote #9.

“There’s a storm coming Harry. We’d all best be ready when she does.” Rubius Hagrid

The gentle (half)giant Hagrid is more than a groundskeeper. He’s a protector and a dear friend. Hagrid’s loyalty and kindness have been displayed time and time again throughout his time at Hogwarts and Harry’s life.

When the threat of the Dark Lord’s return grows greater, this quote reveals Hagrid is realistic about the nature of the situation.

Life lesson: Many unpleasant events in life will come no matter what we do. The way to deal is to prepare as best as we can and face things head-on. I shouldn’t have told you that!

Harry Potter Life Quote #10.

“It is not our abilities that show what we truly are. It is our choices.”  Albus Dumbledore

Here again, the great Headmaster /dumbledore has delivered another memorable quote to Harry. After Harry’s battle in the Chamber of Secrets, Dumbledore talks to Harry in his office about the differences between him and Voldemort.

He goes on to explain that although they may have similar abilities, it is Harry’s choices that make him different.

Life lesson: Many of us are alike when it comes to our capabilities. Making better decisions is what separates us from being viewed as good or bad.
